Part three of Godley Gifts reproduces – also for the first time – a stunning collection of FitzGerald’s watercolours, with which he created a farewell gift for his friend, John Robert Godley, when the Godley’s returned home to England. The collection is a story in itself, something like a modern ‘photo album’, recalling for Godley the ups and downs of the long journey to the new colony, places to which Godley had travelled and familiar buildings, all of which formed part of Godley’s story in Canterbury.
