On behalf of my fellow trustees, please let me present this book set of ‘Godley Gifts’ to you, Te Maire, and please accept the gift on behalf of your Hapu here at Tuahiwi. Receive it as a small token of thanks from the Godley Family for a gift made 169 years ago. I refer, of course, to the beautiful, proudly cared-for, greenstone artefact, which was gifted in 1852 by one of your ancestors to John Robert Godley on his departure from New Zealand in December of that year, a gift treasured from 1852 to this very day.
