The final paragraph of Trustee, Haydn Rawstron’s speech to boys and staff, at the presentation of Godley Gifts on 20th November 2023

Today, ‘Godley Gifts’ now belongs to Medbury School’s Library, marking Medbury’s centennial year (1923 -2023). I have chosen, for Medbury and its centennial, a very special number, the book set number 18, because FitzGerald, our author and painter, was born in 1818. The school’s centennial comes only once, and book set number 18 is probably the number most associated with FitzGerald himself. I hope ‘Godley Gifts’ will nourish your imaginations and, since the stories themselves are timeless, I hope they will nourish the imaginations of Medbury boys for many generations to come.
